Crown & Bridge Restorations

Crown and bridge restorations have changed significantly in the last 10 years. With the advent of stronger and more aesthetic restorations, no longer is a crown or bridge considered a “fake” tooth. Dr Ritsco's desire is for his patients to achieve an undetectable restoration by utilizing the most artistic porcelain ceramists in the country coupled with the advanced techniques for conservative design to maintain as much of your natural, healthy tooth structure as possible. Adhesive bonded restorations have also created a stronger restoration than traditionally cemented crowns increasing the longevity of the crown or bridge.

Crowns are a method of preserving your healthy tooth foundation and reinforcing that foundation by fitting a custom fabricated crown over the tooth. A crown is made of either all porcelain or a porcelain over precious metal depending on the location and patient's desires. An artistic ceramist, hand selected by Dr. Ritsco, is able to duplicate the lifelike vitality, color, contours and anatomy of naturally beautiful tooth.

Crowns must be especially cared for with proper maintenance including brushing, flossing and routine hygiene visits as normal decay and breakdown can still occur at the junction of the tooth and the crown.

Bridges, if you are not a candidate for dental implants, are generally the next best solution. A bridge essentially replaces a missing tooth by affixing a replacement restoration to adjacent teeth. The advantage of a bridge, like a crown, is that it is generally completed in as little as 2 visits.

Generally you are a candidate for a bridge if:

  • You have adjacent teeth that will support the replacement tooth
  • You don't have the appropriate bone level or bone type for dental implants
  • If accelerated timing is an issue for the patient
